Safety in Care Spaces

CLIENT SAFETY

At Meilan Counselling Clinic, ensuring your safety and well-being is our utmost priority.

If you have any concerns regarding your counselling or psychotherapy sessions, we encourage you to first discuss them with your therapist. We understand that expressing difficult emotions can be challenging, so we provide resources to help articulate your feelings, needs, and requests. You can find assistance here: https://www.nonviolentcommunication.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/4part_nvc_process.pdf.

If addressing your concern with your therapist is not possible or safe, or if it remains unresolved, please contact the following:

  • College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario: 1-888-661-4801

  • Registrar of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors: 1-800-909-6303

  • Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association: 1-877-765-5565

For your safety, our clinic does not provide psychiatric or emergency services, or services involving severe crises or legal issues such as custody assessments or severe substance abuse treatment. We also do not serve minors or engage in dual relationships with clients.

COMMUNITY SAFETY

Confidentiality is crucial in therapy. Your personal information will be kept confidential, even after therapy ends. However, there are legal exceptions: mandatory reporting of child abuse/neglect or imminent harm to yourself or others. Additionally, confidentiality may be breached under legal orders, and non-identifying information may be shared for peer consultation purposes.

To learn more about mandatory reporting obligations, please visit: https://www.crpo.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/List-of-Reporting-Obligations.pdf.

CLINICIAN SAFETY

Respectful behavior towards our therapists and staff is expected. The clinic has a policy against abusive behavior, including physical or verbal aggression, threats, stalking, harassment, or discriminatory language. Such behavior may result in termination of therapy and legal action.

If a therapist experiences abuse or harassment, they will document the incident, discontinue engagement, and utilize platform tools to maintain safety, including muting, blocking, and reporting the individual to platform authorities.

At Meilan Counselling Clinic, we are committed to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for everyone involved in our therapeutic community.
